The Belgian American Educational Foundation (BAEF) is the leading independent philanthropy in the support of exchanging university students, scientists, and scholars between the United States and Belgium. The BAEF encourages application for Fellowships for advanced study or research at a Belgian university or institution of higher learning. The BAEF awards annually up to 11 Fellowships to American students or researchers to complete non-renewable year-long fellowships in Belgium. Both fellowship programs provide a stipend and health insurance. Graduate students and doctoral researchers receive a $29,000 stipend and post-doctoral research fellows receive $33,000. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Knowledge of Dutch, or French, or German is optional. Applicants should make their own arrangements to register or affiliate with a Belgian university of research institution.

Eligibility: Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States. For the graduate study fellowships, fellows must register in a graduate program at a Belgian University or higher learning institution. Doctoral applicants for the research fellowships have to be registered in a Ph.D. (or equivalent) program in the U.S. Post-doctoral applicants should have obtained their Ph.D.s within the prior 2 years.
