The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and the British Library is now accepting applications from high achieving students for International PhD (via MPhil) Studentships in the School of Psychology and Humanities.

This practice-based PhD opportunity aims to engage emerging writers in creating new work that explores the histories and legacies of Transatlantic Enslavement, utilizing the collections of the British Library. The project seeks to foster research in cultures of transatlantic enslavement and resistance within the Institute for Black Atlantic Research (IBAR) and the Centre for Migration, Diaspora, and Exile (MIDEX) at UCLan.The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is a dynamic and innovative institution with a rich history dating back to 1828. Eligibility Criteria

  • Eligible Countries: All nationalities
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded in any subject offered by the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan)
  • Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the following criteria:
  • Have a strong academic background and research potential
  • Demonstrate an interest in the histories and legacies of Transatlantic Enslavement
  • Possess excellent writing skills and creative abilities.

Offered Benefits

The studentship will cover the full tuition fees and provide an annual maintenance stipend of £19,237 (2024/5), along with a London allowance (£1,000/year) and a CPD maintenance payment (£600/year). The scholarship is tenable for up to 4 years full-time (subject to satisfactory progress).
