Enel Group has announced the Boston Innovation Hub challenge to find innovative technological solutions in the energy sector. Enel wants to work with talented people with innovative ideas to bring radical change to the energy sector as well make it smarter, more efficient and more reliable in the future.

Challenge Categories Which Require Solutions:

  • Monitoring the health of the infrastructure structures, especially thermoelectric power plants, analyzing their condition and providing innovative solutions.
  • Robots: robots able to perform activities on power plants including inspections, welding, extraction, and positioning of elements, etc.
  • Storage: industrial-scale storage technologies, solutions able to reduce the costs of storage, identify BMS for increasing system lifetime and reliability, the second life of the batteries and disposal.
  • Safety: techniques capable of monitoring and understanding people's behavior and providing alarms in case of dangerous behavior to increase the safety of employees, especially those working in power plants and construction sites.
  • Removal of Oil Leaks from Transformers:  Transformers containing oil are subject to leaks for energy frauds or tampering with their container or other reasons. It’s needed a solution that allows collecting the oil leaks in a safe, environmentally friendly, efficient and economical way.
  • Cable Derivation Identification, especially low voltage distribution network cables.

In addition to these challenges, Enel is always looking for innovative solutions related to all the technological areas:

  • Renewable Energies: Enel is looking for new technologies to improve the performance of solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal power plants as well as innovative storage technologies and battery performance improvement solutions.
  • Enel X: Energy and communications solutions, payment methods and financial solutions, Electrical Mobility Enhancement Solutions.
  • Thermoelectric Generation: Enel prioritizes operational efficiency and increases environmental efficiency in power plant management and is, therefore, looking for solutions able to optimize power equipment, increase the operations through robots and AI.
  • Road and Power Networks: Enel operates 2.2 kilometers of networks, so it looks for solutions to improve its operation, maintenance, and monitoring.
  • Digital Solutions: digitalization is one of the key pillars of Enel's strategy because of the large amounts of data, so Enel is looking for new ideas to manage and organize it.

How to Participate:

Attach documents (max 5 files, 25MB total weight), Explain your proposal clearly in English including the following ideas:

  • Presentation of the proposal.
  • The business potential for Enel.
  • Technical feasibility.
  • Costs/benefits analysis.
  • Innovation level.

Challenge Phases:

  • Phase (1): Includes a preliminary study of participating presentations. Participants may be contacted for more information about their proposals.
  • Phase (2): Proposals will be addressed to the most suitable division to evaluate them according to technical criteria, economic and commercial impact. The presentation of the proposal will also be evaluated.
  • Phase (3): After the evaluation process, all participants will receive feedback. In case of success, an Enel contact person will get in touch with the winner to discuss the next steps.
